The Language of Game Atmosphere

TBA
Language: English (accompanied with Mandarin/Chinese subtitles.)

A strong atmosphere is a key component in making a game memorable. Feelings of awe, beauty, and mystery can be evoked through atmosphere alone, leaving a lasting impression on players. Atmosphere will be explored in the context of games through a theoretical and practical lens.

Farfama will outline atmosphere through the topics of player-human embodiment, user interface, sound, game state, environmental design, narrative, and emergent atmosphere. Technical, and non-technical examples from various games are examined to provide inspiration for enhancing the atmosphere in your projects.

This talk is for artists and developers that want to enhance their game worlds through the subtle yet impactful art of atmospheric design. Those that want to develop a keen sense of detail to create games that make players feel. Participants will benefit with a new language towards visual design as well as advice from outside games on how to notice the world around you by practicing mindful walking.
